Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) will celebrate T-2-4 Week from Nov. 18-22, focusing on the importance of postsecondary education, career readiness, and the development of critical skills that will help students thrive in their future endeavors.
Throughout the week, families are encouraged to engage in activities that will help students explore college and career pathways while building the essential competencies needed to succeed beyond high school.
Daily Themes & Activities:
Monday: Our vision of T-2-4 – Postsecondary Outcomes
The week kicks off by focusing on the importance T-2-4. Staff will share their personal T-2-4 journeys, and students will research various career paths and the education
At Home: Explore College and Career Pathways with Naviance
- Activity: Log into Naviance to explore career assessments and discuss results as a family.
- Tip: Create a “Career Vision Board” with images representing the careers you’re exploring. Share your findings and set goals for the next steps.
Tuesday: The Core Characteristics of a T-2-4 Ready Graduate – Postsecondary Readiness
Today’s theme is about the Core Characteristics of a T-2-4 Ready Graduate—students will engage in activities that promote academic readiness, ethical decision-making, and resourcefulness. A trivia contest and a staff college attendance map will help students understand the diverse paths to success.
Core Characteristic: Academically Prepared, Ethical & Service-minded, Resourceful Problem-solver
At Home: Research Careers with the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
- Activity: Visit the BLS website to explore various career paths, salary data, and job trends.
- Tip: Host a “career discussion” where each family member presents a career and shares key insights from the BLS data.
Wednesday: The Core Characteristics – Postsecondary Preparation
Today, we focus on developing communication and collaboration skills. Students will create T-2-4 commercials and interview staff or volunteers about their educational and career experiences.
Core Characteristic: Communicator & Collaborator, Persistent & Adaptable, Empathetic & Self-aware
At Home: College Search with College Board Big Future
- Activity: Use Big Future to research colleges by location, majors, and cost.
- Tip: Create a “College Wish List” as a family and rank schools based on priorities such as affordability, academic programs, and campus culture.
Thursday: Career & Technical Education (CTE) – Postsecondary Exploration
Students will engage in exploring CTE programs and take virtual college tours to learn about potential career opportunities and the benefits of university education.
At Home: SAT Prep with Khan Academy
- Activity: Spend 30 minutes reviewing Khan Academy’s SAT prep resources. Focus on practice questions or areas for improvement.
- Tip: Make SAT prep a weekly family activity—set goals and reward progress with fun activities like a family movie night.
Friday: Military Careers – Postsecondary Exposure
On the final day of T-2-4 Week, we highlight ethical and service-minded careers, particularly military options. Students will hear from staff veterans and create cards for local veterans to be delivered to organizations like the VFW or VA hospitals.
At Home: Career and Military Exploration Night
- Activity: As a family, research different career paths and military branches. Watch videos or read articles about educational and career opportunities in these fields.
- Tip: Host a “Career Exploration Discussion” where each family member shares what they learned and creates a pros and cons list for each career option.
