Spring Branch Academic Institute (SBAI) provides a challenging and supportive learning environment for highly gifted students through individualized instruction at an advanced pace, depth, and complexity.

As a school-within-a-school, SBAI meets the academic and social needs of students who require a unique learning environment designed for exceptional ability and potential. The program embodies Spring Branch ISD’s Core Value of Every Child — Every Day. Every Minute. Every Way.


Our approach

Under the leadership of Director Kayman McIver, SBAI fosters a culture of authenticity, curiosity, and connection across its campuses. The program is designed to help students think critically, act with empathy, and engage in learning that challenges them to reach their highest potential.

Students are encouraged to be curious, challenge themselves, and learn bravely, supported by dedicated educators who understand the needs of highly gifted learners.

History

The vision for the Spring Branch Academic Institute (SBAI) began in 2005, when an Elementary GT Task Force recommended a specialized program for highly gifted students. A second task force reaffirmed the recommendation in 2007. SBAI opened in 2013-2014 serving grades K–4 and has expanded annually. Today, it serves students through grade 12, demonstrating Spring Branch ISD’s continued commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities for all learners.
